The application for the 2025 Wahi Kūpuna Internship Program is now OPEN

Important Dates and Deadlines
This year the Wahi Kūpuna Internship Program (WKIP) will be held in the ahupuaʻa of Kuʻia in Lahaina, Maui. We will be working closely with the community to research and document the moʻolelo, oral histories, and wahi kūpuna of Kuʻia.
Program Dates: June 30 - August 1, 2025
(workdays are from Monday through Friday,
40 hours per week).
Application Deadline: Applications and all supplemental materials must be received by
March 17, 2025.
Interviews: April 2025
Notification Letters: Sent out by Early May
Eligibility and Application Process
High School students (12th grade), emerging professionals, and college students (undergraduate or graduate) currently enrolled in any Community Colleges or Universities in Hawaiʻi are eligible to apply. Preference will be given to community members and students of Lahaina with ties and commitments to live and work in Maui.
The WKIP application process informs the Huliauapaʻa WKIP Selection Committee about your background, interests, and skills. Upon review of your completed application and required supplemental materials, you will be notified of your application status. The WKIP Selection Committee will conduct a virtual interview if you are selected as a semi-finalist.

Latest high school report card or college transcript (Official and unofficial transcripts are accepted)

Submit an academic writing sample between 3 to 5 pages (single-spaced, proper citations, and bibliography). *If you do not have an academic sample, please submit a personal writing sample.

Two letters of recommendation: 1 academic and 1 professional. *If you don't have someone to provide an academic recommendation, please submit 2 professional letters.
